The Sandymount Media Center provides a variety of resources for students, teachers, and parents. These resources can be accessed through our Destiny catalog, both at school and at home. Students also have access to Sora to checkout eBooks. The media center is also home to our TV studio, home to WMUNK News. WMUNK News is our morning show produced by fifth grade students and directed by Sandymount's Media Specialist, Ms. Boggs. Students who visit the media center are engaged in a variety of activities designed to strengthen their research, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. Media lessons also promote the love of reading and life long learning.
Kindergarten students visit the media center for two 30 minute classes each week. All other students have media for 30 minutes each week. Teachers may also bring students to media for research, media production, or book selection. Media lessons are taught in collaboration with classroom teachers as much as possible.
Destiny is our Online Public Access Catalog or OPAC. You can search the Sandymount Library catalog by clicking the link above. You can search the catalog without logging on. When students log in using their school username and password they can view their checkouts, place holds on books, and make book lists.
When it comes to searching online for information, it is sometimes hard to know where to begin. The following are databases that students have access to at school and from home. These databases are a great place to begin research because the reading level is more appropriate for elementary age students and the information included is reliable. A password is need to access these databases from home. Stop by the media center to pick up a list of the passwords or request a list of the passwords via email from Ms. Boggs
